Mircocrystalline Wax

Mircocrystalline Wax

Poth Hille’s experience in the traditional wax market enables us to offer a wide range of microcrystalline waxes.

A high molecular weight opaque wax, microcrystalline waxes are made up of branched hydrocarbon chains possessing a fine crystal structure. They have a higher melt point and are more viscous than paraffin waxes.

Microcrystalline waxes provide strength, rigidity and superior oil retention qualities, stabilizing blends and extending the shelf life of formulations. They exhibit elastic and adhesive characteristics which impart flexibility to finished products. In technical applications they blend well with solvents to produce a smooth paste with increased tensile strength and scuff resistance.

Due to their unique characteristics, microcrystalline waxes are used in a diverse spectrum of applications. FDA approved, they are used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and personal care. As an EU regulated food additive, E905, they can be used as an emulsifier, fruit coating and are a key ingredient in chewing gum. Their flexibility and adhesiveness means they are used in poultry defeathering, jewellery waxes, polishes, laminating and paper coating, circuit board insulation and rubber manufacturing. Also in leisure activities they are used to coat skis, surfboards and snowboards.

Microcrystalline wax is a petroleum derived product, produced from dewaxing lube oil in the refining process. Our grades are FDA approved, have varied melt points and penetration values.

Poth Hille offer a full range of grades available in pellet, slab or prill form in 25 kilo bags.
