Few types of substances are as varied as wax. Waxes can be naturally occurring or manmade, created from petroleum or soy. Aside from the obvious use of wax in candles, wax can be and is used for anything from a biologist’s microscope slides (histology) to the water-repelling shine on a surfer’s board (surf wax). While they all share certain qualities, such as their insolubility in water, the sheer variety of different types of wax makes it one of the most versatile and useful substances in man’s arsenal.

At Poth Hille, we have been sourcing wax for nearly a century and a half, and pride ourselves on being as versatile as wax itself. We the knowledge required to ensure great service. For example, Candelilla wax is derived from the leaves of the small Candelilla shrub (Euphorbia Cerifera) of northern Mexico, which has been designated as an endangered species under CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna). This requires us to ensure the availability of all statutory import documentation.

Candelilla is a versatile hard natural wax, light in colour, it is insoluble in water and has excellent emollient capabilities. These characteristics allow cosmetic formulators to harden up cosmetic pencil formulations whilst enhancing stability and strength, without increasing the melting point of these products. This wax also provides superior oil retention properties enabling a prolonged shelf life for lipstick formulations. Its film firming qualities are used in mascaras to thicken, lengthen and define eyelashes.

The shrub itself, however, is very susceptible to changing climatic conditions and rain levels. We keep a close eye on these factors which could affect the supply or price, so that our Candelilla customers (usually in the cosmetics and food production industries) can rest safe in the knowledge that they are dealing with experts in the field who only source from recognised and established producers.

We don’t only deal with the bigger industries. Candle makers (from hobbyists to professionals) are also catered for, with our large array of waxes ranging from the traditional paraffin waxes to eco-friendly natural waxes, ensuring we have a wax suitable for every type of candle.

As well as providing the waxes themselves, we also offer a range of wax-related services. If you need bulk wax pellets repackaged, or own label depilatory wax filling into jars or bulk drums, or dedicated molds filling with surf wax, ski wax or depilatory wax, contact us and we can arrange that too!

We offer outstanding value, quality and customer satisfaction, whatever your requirements.
